16 poor families, mostly old and sick live in, have to manually draw water from this single well. Each family should use their own rope and bucket.

It's hard to have sufficient water in wells in elevated places here. It dries up in summer. No public water connection here. So called "colonies" where mostly the lowest strata of people live with almost nothing. Forsaken and forgotten by the madding, growing society.

When we got at the door of a small shed an old lady came out, astonished, saying, "so far no one has ever come in search of us with any help".
