Self-Sufficiency and Self-Sustaining Entities
January 5, 2019
The Bible is clear that in the last days “perilous times shall come” (2 Timothy 3:1 KJV). But as we move towards the last days and as the gospel of the kingdom is “preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations” (Mathew 24:14 KJV), we as a body of Christ must be prepared, be self-sufficient in Christ, and become self-sustaining entities.
I have had the privilege to live in many continents including Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas and throughout my journey, Jesus has been the same “yesterday, and today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8 KJV). But we as humans have been different, especially in our culture, our expectations, our goals and yes in our maturity!
In my last mission trips to Hyderabad, India, I was saddened and overwhelmed that there were still places were some groups of people are treated like third-class citizens (untouchables) even by the locals. They live in isolation and unhealthy environments not knowing the fullness of Christ and the freedom we have in Him. I am grateful that we are trying to support and provide God’s love for them, but it has created such an unsustainable dependency that we do not experience the growth and maturity we need to see in these perilous times. How great would it be if this group of untouchables becomes self-sustaining believing in what God can do in each of them individually!
God has put a passionate and exciting burden in my heart. I believe we will see a day approaching where because our “sufficiency is of God” (2 Corinthians 3:5), we will not only plant churches, missions, other social, education, and gospel projects but each entity that we establish will grow and be independent with God’s sufficiency! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we can plant churches that we can help become self-sustaining to the point that they help grow other churches and ministries independently!
I have a vision where God is expediting his gospel of the kingdom by creating an environment where our sufficiency is in Christ alone, and God is using the body of Christ to build self-sustaining entities like churches that can produce and reproduce independently with their sufficiency in Christ.
