Light in the Darkness

March 1, 2019
"Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness..." Psalm 112:4

Light is the handiwork of God on day one of Creation.  Without it, life could not exist.  Spiritually we live in a dark time.  The darkness of sin permeates our society.  We need Light arising.

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."  John 8:12

As Christians, we live according to God's ways, not worldly perspectives.  His Spirit and guidance illuminate our paths.  Christ came to earth to shine the light of His truth, example, and love unto us.  He left us a legacy of how to live by the life He lived and sacrificed out of love for us.

"As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."  John 9:5

The Gospel of John uses the example of light and darkness/night as a paradigm of good and evil.  Christ came to this earth in a time of darkness and confusion.  For centuries, God's chosen people had been without true prophets of God.  As a result, religion had supplanted God's will with human will.  Religious leaders no longer looked to God for direction preferring to utilize political strategies, formal theological writings, and monotonous social regulations.  God was no longer the center of worship.  Preferences of religious leaders replaced or re-interpreted Scripture.  The people were expected to follow human leadership without God's input.  Christ came to show the people the proper way to serve God.  Jesus was executed when they rejected His criticism and guidance.

"Ye are the light of the world."  Matthew 5:14

Since Christ has ascended into heaven, we are His light in a world of darkness.  The responsibility of sharing His truth, life, and love rests on our shoulders.  The Light of Christ within us needs to arise and shine in this darkest of hours.  It is time to make a stand against the darkness.  Remember light easily vanquishes darkness.  It is not a matter of if we can succeed; it is only a question of will we by the power of God try.

"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.  For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord..."  II Corinthians 4:3-5

If there were ever a time when minds are blinded it is now.  So many people who know the truth continue to reject it.  Others who do not know seem oblivious when confronted by it as well.  In an Age of Information, we live in a time of misinformation and deception.  This false truth is a spirit of antichrist (I John 2:18; 2:22; 4:3; II John 1:7).  We live in an age when we need God's Spirit more than ever.

We need the Spirit to provide unity in our labor.  As humans, we are prone to strife and complaints.  God provides peaceful harmony which minimizes the possibility of these problems if His Spirit leads us.  Not all of us are called to the front lines of ministry.  Those who are called to that ministry need the financial and prayerful support of many others who may never experience those situations apart from intercessory prayer.  At this moment in history, we should not question if we have a purpose. The question is where and how are we serving next for God.

We need the Spirit to bring conviction with such power that removes the blinders of this age.  People need to experience genuine sorrow for sin, but this cannot happen without the Divine understanding of sin.  The spirit of this period is blinding people to truth and the possibility of external justification. Even when wrongdoers are convicted, they still justify their actions and refuse to accept responsibility.  If they are blinded by self-justification, they will never see the need for a Savior who freely justifies us with His blood.

During March, this blog will be focusing on spiritual warfare.  We are dealing with unseen spirits with highly visible consequences.  Our contributors will be sharing what God has placed upon their hearts to deal with these problems within this time in history.  I pray we can effectively engage the evil of this hour with the mighty power of God's Spirit working through us.  May God be with us all.
