The Importance of Prayer
August 13, 2019
Our God is living God. He is very close to us to listen to us. He is ready to hear our prayers and answer them in his marvelous ways. God knows what we need. But he wants us to come to his presence, making ourselves humble to talk to him. Prayer is the key to communicate with God. All his children should come to his presence to pray to him. A father always wants to talk to his son. A good father always wants to listen to his children. Our God is a good father. He wants to talk to us and listen to us. For that, we, His children should come to his presence.
God promises us to listen to our prayers.
"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
(Philippians 4:19). In this writing, we are going to see the importance of prayers. What are the effects of prayers? Five points are described below on the significance of prayers.
1, To Listen to the Voice of God
God talks to us through different means. One of them is prayer. If we want to hear the voice of God, we have to spend time in prayers. Peter heard from God while he was praying. Accts 10:9, 10 says this:
Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour…
And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him.
It's essential to pray to listen from God.
2. To Live a Victorious Life
Those who spend time in prayers live a victorious life. Let us think about Daniel. Bible says that he used to pray three times a day. He has a particular prayer schedule every day. That means he was a man of prayer. And we can see that he was thrown into the den of lions. But he was alive there. The entire kingdom knew that it happened only because of the relationship of Daniel to Jehovah. Daniel lived a victorious life because he used to spend time in prayers every day.
3. Healing
Prayers can heal us physically, mentally, and spiritually. People need healing. In Luke 10, we read about Bartimaeus. He cried the name of Jesus among the crowds. People rebuked him and tried to keep silent to him. But he continually prayed to Jesus for healing. Finally, Jesus came to him and healed him and gave him the sight. Our prayers can heal us. To be healed, we need to pray unceasingly.
4. To Know the Will of God
Prayer is essential to know the will of God. Knowing the will of God in our life is very important. Before choosing twelve disciples, Jesus spent time in prayers.
And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. (Luke 6:12).
Before choosing the twelve as disciples, Jesus spends the whole night in prayers to know the will of God. Knowing the will of God is very important in the Christian life. Now we have the Holy Spirit to help us in this matters. When we pray to God to know his will, the Holy Spirit reveals His will to us.
5. To See the Work of God
God hears our prayers. He answers our prayers in his way and in his own time. It's amazing to see the fulfillment of our prayers. We only can feel the presence, but God knows the future also. God knows how to answers us. God knows what will be best for us. When we pray to him, he answers us. Let us consider Elijah from the Bible. Elijah was before the priests of Baal. The challenge was that the true God should send fire to the sacrifice from heaven. The priests of Baal cried to Baal, but nothing happened. Then Elijah prayed to Jehovah.
"……that Elijah the prophet came near, and said,………. Then
the
fire
of
the
LORD fell,
and
consumed
the
burnt sacrifice,
and
the
wood,
and
the
stones,
and
the
dust,
and
licked up
the
water
that
was
in
the
trench."
(1Kings 18:36,38). If we pray, we will see the powerful work of God like Elijah.
