"Sunday is near"

April 19, 2019
Love died today,
I watched as His last breath slipped away,
I am shocked with dismay,
How Love ended this way.

A pentad ago people sang Love’s praise,
Shouting in the streets ”Hosannahs” were raised.
To Love as He proclaimed,
”Even the rocks would say, ’Glorify, Glorify, Glorify!’ in praise.”

Unfortunately today a different crowd came,
Spitting, cursing, calling Love names,
They had blood in their eyes and wanted Love to die,
Shouting, ”Crucify, crucify, CRUCIFY!”

Love was forsaken today,
Love was betrayed,
By one of us who kissed Love’s face,
Though for a paltry sum he dismissed
The life Love gave to him.

Love was denied,
He knew it would happen before being crucified,
How can all of this happen?
How can life ever be the same?
I just watched Love die.

Love was beaten today,
His body was bruised, torn, and flayed,
Why would anyone treat Love this way?
He came to seek, save, and heal
Now Love’s body lies still.

We prepare to bury Love today,
Haste is a must as we whisk Love’s body away,
”Forgive them” is what Love proclaimed,
How could Love allow forgiveness,
When Love was so brutally mistreated?

My hope has changed today,
The future is opaque when it formally was clear,
I'm unsure about tomorrow and what I will feel,
But inside I hear...

A tender voice calm and clear,
Saying, ”Weep for Love today and tomorrow...”
I most certainly will.
The voice replies,
”Sunday is near.”
